Mr. Trenchless Calgary Water & Sewer Contractors

Weeping Tile Installation Services

Installing weeping tile around the exterior of your home’s foundation can protect it from damage. It’s a basement waterproofing method that uses a drainage pipe to collect groundwater. The pipe redirects it away from the house into the yard, storm sewer, or underground sump pit. If your home is vulnerable or has been affected by water damage in the past, consider installing weeping tile. The team at Mr. Trenchless is here to help.

Weeping Tile Installation Services Benefits

Keeping water away from your home

Stopping water from getting into your basement

Preventing foundation damage

Choosing weeping tile to direct water away from your foundation is wise. It reduces hydrostatic pressure, which is usually the culprit behind cracks and leaks. Weeping tile is actually not a tile at all, but rather pipes, made from robust materials, with holes to stop water levels from rising above them. The water flows into the holes and travels down the pipe and away from your home, keeping it dry and avoiding water damage.

What Is the Mr. Trenchless Weeping Tile Installation Process?

Installing a weeping tile system is a large and complex job that’s best done by professionals. Call the team at Mr. Trenchless to discuss your options.

There are two types of weeping tile installation, exterior and interior. First, let us walk you through our exterior installation process.

We begin by digging a trench around the outside of your home. It will extend down to the footings, and slope one inch for every eight feet of length. Once the pit is fully dug, we pour two to three inches of washed gravel in to line the bottom.

Then a PVC pipe that has pre-drilled holes is laid with the holes face-down (unless the pipe has holes all the way around) to allow water to flow into the pipe. Gravity might make this sound counter-intuitive, but you want the water to fill the pipe before it gets too high.

The next step is backfilling the trench. Your contractor will add gravel, then dirt with sod to conceal the weeping tile completely. This makes it easier to landscape later.

Another option that’s fairly affordable is interior weeping tile. Here’s how it’s done.
The first step is removing stud walls and digging small trenches around the perimeter of your basement. Then the piping can be installed in the trench.

Next, weeping holes are drilled into the bottom of the concrete walls, allowing water to drain out of them and into the system. Lastly, the drainage system is connected to an underfloor sump pump and discharge pipe. All of the work can be concealed under the floor and behind walls, so your basement still looks its best.

FAQs

Weeping Tile Installation Services FAQs

Weeping tiles are a type of drainage system that diverts water away from the foundation of a building. They are made of a perforated plastic pipe that is laid in a bed of gravel around the perimeter of the foundation. The pipe is then connected to a sump pump, which pumps the water away from the foundation and into a designated area. Weeping tiles allow water to enter the pipe from the soil surrounding the foundation.

Follow our tips to help your weeping tiles work for years to come. Do the following:

  • Keep leaves and debris out of your gutters and redirect spouts away from your home
  • Clean out and consider covering window wells to keep water out
  • Ensure your sump pump is working properly
  • Avoid clogging sinks and toilets.

If you suspect your weeping tile system needs repairs, call Mr. Trenchless in Calgary!

Weeping tile originated when drainpipes were made from terracotta tiles. Now, weeping “tiles” are made from plastic or PVC pipes, which are much more efficient and durable.
